OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY PROGRAMS

 

The Council is committed to understanding the concerns of employers regarding worker safety, insurance costs, regulatory and other issues that impact the workplace.  In 2011, the National Safety Council reported 3,905 unintentional, on-the-job worker deaths. The St. Joseph Safety and Health Council is dedicated to assisting area employers decrease the chances of this occurring in their facilities.  We offer a variety of safety training programs and events designed to assist employers in providing a safer working environment for employees, as well as meet standards set forth in the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. 

 

 

Occupational Safety Training

The Safety Council partners with certified training specialists in the field of Occupational Safety and Health to provide quality training on the subjects that you are most concerned about within your company. 

 

Some classes, specifically those that comply with or address an OSHA training standard, are provided on a regular basis by qualified instructors.  These classes may cover the following topics:

          Confined Space Entry/Rescue

          OSHA Recordkeeping

          Lock Out/Tag Out

          Ergonomics

          Workers Comp

          Supervisor Training

          Conducting Safety Audits

          OSHA 10-hour General Industry Course

          OSHA 10-hour Construction Course

Occupational Safety Membership

Industrial manufacturing companies, construction companies and any other employer in northwest Missouri responsible for complying with standards set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) of 1970 are encouraged to become members of the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council.  Click here for a current list of Occupational Safety Members.

Membership Requirements

Any company or business concerned with the safety and health of their employees may become a member of the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council. Breakfast Speaker Series

The St. Joseph Safety and Health Council has assisted businesses and industries in Northwest Missouri with safety and health related issues since 1935.  The Council is committed to understanding the concerns of employers regarding worker safety, insurance costs, regulatory and other issues that impact our workplaces.

 

In 2017, the Safety Council is offering the Breakfast Speaker Series in coordination with the Midland Empire Safety Association. Breakfast program are intended for safety managers, human resource personnel, safety team leaders, or anyone interested in learning about workplace safety issues, and is an event where they can come share a light breakfast and learn about different safety topics that impact our workplaces.  Each session will have a speaker address the featured topic and answer your questions, as well as provide time for networking with your peers.

 

The Breakfast Speaker Series occurs on the first Thursday of the month in February, April, June, August, October and December.  All programs will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will be held at the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council Office located at 3131 Frederick Ave., Suite 220 in St. Joseph, unless otherwise noted.

 

The cost to attend is free for Safety Council Occupational Safety Members (please limit two attendees per company) and MESA members.  Non-members will be charged $10 per person.   

Please RSVP for each individual program by calling 816.233.3330 or email sjsc@stjoesafetycouncil.org no later than Tuesday, Noon, the week of the scheduled event.  PLEASE NOTE:  If you RSVP to attend a program but fail to attend or cancel less than 24 hours prior to the program, you will be invoiced $10 to cover food costs.

Midland Empire Safety Association (MESA)

MESA is a committee of the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council, comprised of safety professionals working in the St. Joseph area.  Members convene on a regular basis to discuss relevant safety issues within their facilities, and tours or programs are often incorporated into the meetings as an opportunity for professional development. 

 

Meetings take place usually on the third Thursday (except during the summer months) beginning at 11:30 a.m., and are held at various locations around the St. Joseph community.  Click here for a list of upcoming MESA Meetings.

 

MESA's Mission Statement
To provide an opportunity for persons with responsibilities in the area of safety and health to interact, share ideas for continuous improvement, further educate and develop its members, and to promote the awareness of safety in the community.

 

Membership Requirements for MESA

Membership in the association requires meeting one of the following criteria:

  •  

          those who have a degree, certificate or are currently enrolled in any occupational

          safety and/or health program, including: occupational safety, industrial hygiene,

          environmental safety, industrial fire prevention, risk management, occupational

          medicine, or a related field

         

          professional whose work related duties involve environmental, health, safety

          or workers compensation procedures

        

          vendors of safety related equipment and supplies

 

2017 MESA Membership Fees

          Company memberships for 2017 are included in your Safety Council membership.

Please indicate you wish to have a portion of your membership to apply to MESA and name one/two representatives.

          Annual membership dues for companies that are not members of the St. Joseph 

          Safety and Health Council are $50, with the organization designating an

          individual to be their representative.
